Current Project
This project involves new ways of working. I am creating a body of work which joins together outcomes in both painting and sculpture. I am celebrating the design of natural forms and suggesting conversations through the presentation of cast glass sculpture and painting within an exhibition setting. The series of works is derived directly from my recordings of natural forms in the landscape. These are drawings, photographs and sound recordings. The works are figurative and comment upon my own close observations of Design in Nature, together with a focus on the structures that connect us , and the marks which identify us as individuals, those that quietly say, ‘Here I am’. Some of the pieces will be groupings of the forms arranged within a Still Life Context. Colour will be introduced to convey mood. The forms suggest emergence and abundance, and remind us of seed pods, botanical features and other figurative elements. They convey my responses to both the environment and the pandemic. The series shall invite a contemplation of aesthetics, and a consideration of our relationships with our environment, and to each other. The questions asked are : How can I draw attention to the beauty of these structures, the lines and forms that are found in flora and fauna. How can I employ light shadow to accentuate grace. How can I suggest the felt experience as I should ? How can I express ambiguity and shift? How can I quietly give voice to this time?
